Young carer support services

A young carer is someone who is under 18 and helps to look after a family member or a friend with a disability or who is ill, has a mental health condition or misuses drugs or alcohol. Here is a list of organisations and charities offering support to young carers in the UK.

Action for Children – a national charity providing support & breaks for young carers www.actionforchildren.org.uk

Barnardo’s – a national charity providing support to young carers organising outings/activities, advice/counselling, getting family support from social services, talk to young carers school so they can be properly supported & run drop-in centres so young carers can take a break & have fun www.barnardos.org.uk

CarersTrust – a national charity supporting carers by campaigning for the rights of unpaid carers young & old. They work with schools to share good practice, tools & training www.carers.org

Centre33 – a local charity supporting young people with mental health and wellbeing, caring responsibilities and more www.centre33.org.uk
