Trainee General Adviser [Shared Vision Project]

We are able to offer a paid training opportunity to give you the skills necessary to provide valuable information and guidance to even more of our local residents.

This one-year funding from the Controlling Migration Fund will resource you to join a project called Shared Vision; which will see newly trained workers giving advice in outreach services located in locations such as GP practices and other community hubs throughout Peterborough.

The primary aim is to increase the provision of free face to face general advice, by providing an increased number of trained advisers, within financially excluded areas and to deprived communities. Trainees will not need to have experience of providing general advice or case work but will need to demonstrate: -

  • An ability to communicate effectively & sensitively with clients,
  • Educated to degree level
  • Good written and numerical skills
  • Be a confident self-starter with a client focused approach.

Salary: £16,380 p.a. [rising to £19,000 p.a. once competent]
Hours: 35 per week
Duration: Fixed term 1-year contract

Debt/Housing Supervisor

We are looking for an individual with recent supervisory experience in housing and debt casework, who can make a real difference to people’s lives by preventing homelessness. The successful candidate will be expected to be able to deal with complex cross cutting issues, not necessarily all debt or housing related, and ensure clients can in future budget effectively, with skills and confidence to prioritise expenditure. You will have excellent interpersonal skills, be able to work flexibly with clients, whilst leading a team. We are currently developing a new joint approach to the prevention of homelessness in the city with a new co-located service working in partnership with Peterborough City Council.

Debt / Housing Worker [Prevention of Homelessness]

This is a good career opportunity for an individual to join our Prevention of Homelessness team as a Debt Adviser working in a small team at Peterborough Customer Service Centre. The person we are looking for will need to hold, or be working towards a recognised qualification in debt advice [CertMAP].

The successful candidate will need to be responsive, have good interpersonal skills, tenacity in problem-solving, with ongoing experience of: -

  • Providing a comprehensive debt advice service with experience of meeting key dates and setting priorities.
  • Budgeting & income maximisation, particularly working with vulnerable clients to create sustainable budgets for the long term.
  • Strong analytical skills with an ability to interpret complex data.
