Training Officer

Citizens Advice is the main supplier of free, confidential, impartial advice in Peterborough. Our team of general advisers are predominantly volunteers and we are looking for a Training Officer to support and mentor their work.

The post holder will recruit, train and assess the competency of volunteer trainees, plus work with existing advisers to develop their skills. Lead on training and development of the volunteer team across the charity, working closely with our Advice Session Supervisors.

The successful candidate will have experience of supporting, training and developing people and ideally have experience of advice delivery. You will have excellent interpersonal skills, be a team player as well as having a proactive approach to work.

Salary: £14,196 p.a.

Hours: 21 per week [Tuesday – Thursday inclusive]

Reporting to: Chief Executive

Annual leave: 28 days’ pro rata + Bank Holidays

Term: Permanent

Trainee Advice Session Supervisor

Salary: £20,761 p.a. [rising to £25,951p.a. one training concluded]

Locations: Peterborough city centre

Hours: Full-time [35 hours per week]

Term: Permanent Position

We are the main supplier of AQS accredited general advice in Peterborough operating from our central base in the city centre. We run outreach services across the city including at the Honeyhill Children’s Centre, Aspire Drug & Alcohol Service and at the Rainbow Savers Credit Union, alongside run our Adviceline, Webchat and email advice services.

About the role:

We are recruiting an experienced generalist adviser who wishes to progress to train as an Advice Session Supervisor. You will work from our main office in Peterborough city centre supervising both advice and initial assessment sessions.

Other duties and responsibilities include:   

  • Supporting and supervising volunteers & paid general advice staff
  • Ensuring the quality of advice meets AQS
  • Formulating personal development plans for individuals as required
  • Providing advice on a range of social welfare law issues
  • Ensure that work reflects and supports the Citizens Advice service's equality and diversity strategy.
  • Focus on Universal Credit including Personal Budgeting Support

To be successful you will need:

  • To have achieved the Generalist Adviser Certificate from National Citizens Advice and have practical experience of general advice casework
  • A focus on first-rate client care and high quality advice provision
  • A good understanding of Universal Credit & budgeting

Trainee General Adviser [Shared Vision Project]

Salary: £16,289 p.a. [rising to £19,000 p.a. once competent]

Hours: 35 per week

Duration: Fixed term 2-year contract

Citizens Advice Peterborough are able to offer paid training opportunities to three individuals to provide valuable information and guidance to even more local residents.

This two-year funding from the Controlling Migration Fund will resource a project called Shared Vision; which will see the three trained workers giving advice in new outreach services located in community based locations such as GP practices and other community hubs throughout Peterborough.

The primary aim is to increase the provision of free face to face general advice, by providing an increased number of trained advisers, within financially excluded areas and to deprived communities.

Trainees will not need to have experience of providing general advice or case work but will need to demonstrate: -

  • The ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with clients,
  • Educated to degree level preferably in Social Sciences
  • Good written and numerical skills
  • Be a confident self-starter with an organised approach to work.

Volunteer Development Officer

Salary: £27,090 p.a.

Location: Peterborough

Hours: Full-time [35 hours per week]

Term: 3 year fixed term contract

This is an exciting time for volunteering at Citizens Advice Peterborough and you will work across the charity to ensure volunteers play a bigger role in the future work of the service. You will develop and manage our volunteering strategy including recruitment, retention, training and development of all volunteers.

The successful candidate will have experience of building strong relationships and networks. We are looking for someone with great skills in communications, influencing and negotiating, who is able to build long standing, mutually beneficial relationships on behalf of CAP. Ideally you will have experience of the charity sector and a good understanding of volunteering.
