Personal Budgeting & Assisted Digital Support Officer

We are a busy dynamic city centre advice agency serving a diverse urban community. We move to a full service area for Universal Credit in November 2017 when some claimants will need intensive digital support, help with budgeting and potentially how to prioritise and manage debts. To assist people to make effective UC claims, avoid homelessness and manage their money we are seeking to appoint an experienced generalist adviser.

This post will provide proactive support for people in making and managing their UC claim including accessing and utilising on-line services; and assisting them with managing their financial affairs. You will actively support people individually or in-group sessions to adjust to managing their money on a monthly basis through personal budgeting support. Your role is to investigate the claimant’s current financial and personal situation including digital skills, help claimants to prioritise and budget, and provide handy hints and tips on how to cut expenditure and give advice on dealing with debts and avoiding potential homelessness; with referrals to a debt specialist for casework as appropriate.

The work will be wide ranging and varied so being a people person and a team player will be essential.

Contract: Initial 12 month fixed term contract with the possibility of extension

Salary: Living wage currently £8:45 an hour

Hours: 30 per week (Mon-Fri) 09:00 – 16:00

Prevention of Homelessness Worker

This project, funded by The Henry Smith Charity, will be our frontline response to the prevention of homelessness for people experiencing housing difficulties in Peterborough, especially as a result of the impact of Universal Credit.

We are a busy dynamic city centre advice agency serving a diverse urban community. We move to a full service area for Universal Credit in November 2017 when some claimants will need intensive support to maintain their tenancy and avoid losing their home.

The role of the Prevention of Homelessness Worker is to interview, assist, assess and identify options for people, while working collaboratively with partners such as housing and homelessness services, prisons, drug treatment agencies and other relevant stakeholders.

Whilst demanding this role will be rewarding providing a real opportunity to help people in crisis access the legal help and services they require to retain their home. The post holder will need to have a good practical knowledge of homelessness legislation, an understanding of the issues surrounding homelessness and its prevention, together with excellent communication, report writing and IT skills.

The post holder will need to be composed and self-confident with the ability to deal professionally with people who are in acute need, often distressed and at times challenging.

Contract: Fixed term 3-year contract

Salary: £22,932 p.a.

Hours: 35 per week (Mon-Fri) 09:00 – 17:00
